Acute Homeotherapeutic Curriculum

Knowledge of this basic module is the prerequisite for the Advanced Program. It consists of six audio-taped sessions plus accompanying exercises, reading, study and quizzes. Expectations, assignments, and quizzes are clearly defined. There are quizzes at the beginning of each session on the previous session's material. A packet of cases, study material and related journal articles are included with each session.

Besides listening to, and participating in, the approximately five-hour audio session, an additional fifteen to twenty hours of home study per session is also necessary to qualify for a certificate and get the most out of the course. For most people, we recommend completing one session per month, making this a six-month course.

However, it can be done in any time frame within one year that is comfortable for the student. After one year, extensions may be applied for and may be subject to an additional fee.

Each session contains the following five sections:

Homeopathic Philosophy: Studies from the classic work The Organon of Medicine by Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, with accompanying readings in Lectures on Homeopathic Philosophy by Kent.

Skills: The entire acute case-taking process is taught thoroughly and methodically. Each month a new step is added and skills are developed. Topics include case-taking, case analyses, case evaluation and management, repertorization, and potency selection.

Therapeutics: Each session covers a different acute therapeutic topic. These include Psycho-Emotional Conditions (travel, insomnia, acute anxiety, and grief); Musculoskeletal Conditions; Upper Respiratory Infections; Injuries and Trauma; Ear, Nose, and Throat; and Gastrointestinal Conditions.

Materia Medica: Studies of six or seven homeopathic remedies associated with the session’s therapeutic topic. The first remedy listed in the syllabus is studied in more depth, the focus for the other remedies is on their essential characteristics.

Case Studies: Applying all that we’ve learned to actual cases.

Requirements for the Certificate of Completion

Students qualify for a certificate in Acute Homeotherapeutics by completing all six sessions of Module One, including handing in all required written work, completing five quizzes, and submitting an acute case write-up prepared according to the guidelines provided. Written work may be handed in via fax, e-mail, or postal mail and must be typed or neatly handwritten.
